Scan a food barcode, get a score out of 100 and a plain explanation of what is on the label. The score is a deterministic calculation over open data — not an opinion, and not a number copied from anywhere.
Where the data comes from
Product facts come from Open Food Facts, the open food database, and are used under the ODbL. Images are under CC-BY-SA.
Open Food Facts is not complete, and LabelRay does not pretend otherwise: a missing field is shown as missing rather than filled in with a typical value, and a product without enough data gets no score at all instead of a flattering one. Where a label is missing from the database, you can photograph the package and add it — and once a moderator approves it, the data and the picture go back to Open Food Facts for everyone.
The product half of our own catalogue is published openly under the same ODbL terms, which is how the share-alike obligation is met.
Not medical advice
LabelRay is an information tool. It is not a substitute for reading the label, and never a substitute for a doctor. This matters most for allergens: recipes change, source data lags, and "no data" is not the same as "none".
